William Allen White Children’s Book Winners Announced

The two books selected by Kansas schoolchildren for the 2023 William Allen White Children’s Book Awards center around the journeys of children with eccentric fathers. While one journey is supernatural, and the other is of survival, in both “Scritch Scratch” by Lindsay Currie, and “96 Miles” by J.L. Esplin, it is discovered that the fathers’ eccentricities weren’t unwarranted.




Elizabeth Dobler is 2023 Roe R. Cross Distinguished Professor at Emporia State University

A professor of elementary education with a focus on reading and literacy is the 2023 Roe R. Cross Distinguished Professor at Emporia State University. Dr. Elizabeth Dobler received the award during a surprise presentation at the conclusion of her Dr. John E. King Endowed Professor Lecture in The Teachers College this afternoon (Thursday, April 28, 2023).

Renowned Paraguayan Pianist to present free concert in Emporia

Pianist and composer Daniel Ayala is visiting Emporia State University this month to work with the music students and perform. Ayala is faculty at the Universidad Nacional de Asuncion and the Instituto Superior de Bellas Artes, teaching contemporary piano in both prestigious institutions.
