Emporia State Names Schwerdtfeger Dean of The Teachers College

The new dean of The Teachers College is an Emporia State alum with 25 years of experience as an educator and one who has become familiar with the job over the past year. Brent Thomas, provost and vice president for academic affairs, announced Dr. Sara Schwerdtfeger as the permanent dean following a nationwide search. Schwerdtfeger has served as interim dean of The Teachers College since May 2023.


Seniors Can Apply for Education, Nursing Scholarships at ESU

Applications are now open for the Jones Premier Nursing and Education Scholarship at Emporia State. The scholarship is a competitive scholarship available to high-achieving graduating high school seniors in Lyon, Osage and Coffey counties who plan to major in education or nursing at Emporia State.


ESU Theatre Presents ‘Time Stands Still’ by Donald Margulies

Emporia State University Theatre presents “Time Stands Still” by Donald Margulies. Performances are scheduled for Nov. 14, 15 and 16 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. in the Ronald Q. Frederickson Theatre, in Roosevelt Hall.



ESU Alumni Association to Recognize University Service Citation Recipients

The ESU Alumni Association’s University Service Citation Award honors both alumni and friends who have made unique and significant contributions to Emporia State, its students and its staff members. This year’s recipients will be recognized during the ESU vs. Central Missouri football game on Saturday, Nov. 9.


White Library Hosts Archives Exhibit

'Knight Owl' Receives 2024 Bill Martin Jr. Picture Book Award

“Knight Owl,” Christopher Denise’s author-illustrator debut, has received the Bill Martin, Jr. Picture Book Award for 2024. The award aims to promote an appreciation of quality literature in young children across Kansas. “Knight Owl” is a New York Times Bestseller and a Caldecott Honor by the American Library Association.
