ESU July Outreach Features STEM-focused ‘Creature of the Night,’ ‘Cosmic Colors’ Events

Summer is in full swing, and Emporia State University’s STEM outreach programs are offering activities for all ages, with options for daytime and evening. Children 7 and under are invited to Science Storytime at the Prophet Aquatic Research and Outreach Center at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 8, or at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 11. Parents and caregivers must accompany them, and seating is limited. Both sessions will explore the world of trees.


Blue-Green Algae Warning for ESU’s King Lake

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has issued a warning for blue-green algae at King Lake on the north end of the Emporia State University. This means that a harmful algae bloom is expected or present.




20 Scholarships in 20 Days from Emporia State University

New incoming students planning to enroll at Emporia State University for fall 2024 have an extra incentive to move quickly. The university will award 20 scholarships of $500 each through 20 consecutive days of drawings. The 20-in-20 scholarship drawings begin June 24.


ESU Summer Theatre Presents ‘The Two Gentlemen of Verona’ by William Shakespeare

Emporia State University Theatre celebrates 70 years of Summer Theatre with the performance of "The Two Gentlemen of Verona" by William Shakespeare. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Summer Theatre Program at ESU. Performances are scheduled for June 27 through 29 at 7:30 p.m. and June 30 at 2 p.m. in the Ronald Q. Frederickson Black Box Theatre, in Roosevelt Hall.



ESU Venues Part of Kansas Sunflower Summer Program

Emporia State University is proud to announce its participation in the 2024 Kansas Tourism Sunflower Summer program. Visitors to the campus can see a Cretaceous mosasaur and a mastodon tusk at the Johnston Geology Museum, while the Schmidt Museum of Natural History contains a collection of 600 taxidermy mounts of birds, mammals, reptiles and fish from Kansas. Then, journey to the Prophet Aquatic Research and Outreach Center (PAROC), built on the shores of ESU’s King Lake. PAROC provides guests with hands-on experiences and the chance to see live animal exhibits featuring aquatic species native to the region.


National Teachers Hall of Fame Induction Week Begins Monday

The five career teachers in the National Teachers Hall of Fame Class of 2024 arrive in Emporia on Monday, June 17, for a week of activities that culminate in their induction into the hall. Several events later in the week are open to the public. This is the 32nd year for the NTHF induction ceremonies.
