The Kansas Humanities Council has named Kevin Rabas, chair of Emporia State’s Department of English, Modern Languages and Journalism, the Poet Laureate of KansasTM, 2017-2019.
To facilitate friendly discussion on the topics of progressivism, conservatism and the common good, two ESU faculty members Thursday night will participate in a debate-style forum titled “Progressivism, Conservatism and the Common Good: A Friendly Discussion?”
In 1994, a $150,000 gift from Augusta Shepherd (BSB ’44 Business Administration) and her late husband, R. Hershel Shepherd, to the Emporia State Foundation established the Shepherd Scholars program. Annual and major gifts from Augusta, son Jim Shepherd, daughter Joyce and Craig French, daughter Judy and David Hawkins, and the family businesses have continued to grow the endowment ever since. Recently, they enhanced the Shepherd Scholars endowment with generous gifts in excess of the original gift amount.

Emporia State University’s Theatre Department is proud to announce the launch of online ticketing for all individual ticket sales with the production of “Sense and Sensibility” running April 25 through 29. ESU Theatre’s ticketing processes will continue to be managed through the Emporia State University Memorial Union Ticket Office; however, the recent upgrade to a new ticketing software, UniversityTickets©, now allows for ticket purchases to be made online via computers, tablets and mobile devices as well as through the traditional methods of in-person and by phone.

The annual event provides a special opportunity at no cost for individuals, organizations and professional advisors to learn about initiatives and resources that help support the work they do. This year’s event is Tuesday, April 25, at the Flint Hills Technical College.
With a course that loops through Campus Woods and includes multiple muddy obstacles, the annual Nitty Gritty Dirt Dash is a fun run designed to excite and challenge participants. The race kicks off its fifth year at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, at the Trusler Sports Complex.
