Emporia State Makes Way for Ducks

Eight Pekin ducks will call Emporia State University’s Wooster Lake home beginning Friday, April 21. The ducks will have their own houses and will eventually be named.


Kevin J. Rabas named Poet Laureate of Kansas

The Kansas Humanities Council has named Kevin Rabas, chair of Emporia State’s Department of English, Modern Languages and Journalism, the Poet Laureate of KansasTM, 2017-2019.


On Both Sides of the Common Good

Shepherd Family Continues to Leave Lasting Impact

In 1994, a $150,000 gift from Augusta Shepherd (BSB ’44 Business Administration) and her late husband, R. Hershel Shepherd, to the Emporia State Foundation established the Shepherd Scholars program. Annual and major gifts from Augusta, son Jim Shepherd, daughter Joyce and Craig French, daughter Judy and David Hawkins, and the family businesses have continued to grow the endowment ever since. Recently, they enhanced the Shepherd Scholars endowment with generous gifts in excess of the original gift amount.



Schools Seek Hispanic Input

Emporia educators want to learn from Hispanic students and their families. Two sessions of “El Futuro es Tuyo” (The Future is Yours) are set for Monday, April 24 and Sunday, April 30.


ESU Theatre Launches Online Ticketing

Emporia State University’s Theatre Department is proud to announce the launch of online ticketing for all individual ticket sales with the production of “Sense and Sensibility” running April 25 through 29. ESU Theatre’s ticketing processes will continue to be managed through the Emporia State University Memorial Union Ticket Office; however, the recent upgrade to a new ticketing software, UniversityTickets©, now allows for ticket purchases to be made online via computers, tablets and mobile devices as well as through the traditional methods of in-person and by phone.



Advancing Philanthropy Workshop April 25

The 2017 Advancing Philanthropy in the Flint Hills workshop presents Robert Swanson, President & CEO of Swanson House, Inc. The annual event provides a special opportunity at no cost for individuals, organizations and professional advisors to learn about initiatives and resources that help support the work they do. This year’s event is Tuesday, April 25, at the Flint Hills Technical College.


Wednesday is Preregistration Deadline for Dirt Dash

With a course that loops through Campus Woods and includes multiple muddy obstacles, the annual Nitty Gritty Dirt Dash is a fun run designed to excite and challenge participants. The race kicks off its fifth year at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, at the Trusler Sports Complex.
