Art History Minor

The minor in Art History is an enrichment program for students desiring recognition of accomplishments in the visual arts without the commitment required for a major in art. Art history minors develop skills in visual literacy and critical thinking that are applicable to any number of fields. Students learn to research carefully and efficiently while broadening their knowledge of the world and history. The required courses for the art history minor feature art history classes with both global and Western perspectives and introductory courses in drawing and 2D or 3D design. Elective art history classes include courses on art and gender, non-Western art, and courses focused on various cultural periods from antiquity to today.

What can you do with this minor?

Students will be prepared to work professionally in a field that may benefit from expanded study in the visual arts or art history.

Be part of something great

At ESU, students take an active role in developing the cultural experience of Emporia. You’ll get opportunities to display your work, both within your department and to the wider Emporia State and Emporia communities. Our campus galleries, the Norman R. Eppink and the Gilson Memorial Gallery hold student and faculty exhibits throughout the semester that are open to the public. In the Emporia community, the First Friday Art Walk, started by alum Kaila Mock, often features student work.
