UNIVERSITY SUPPORT STAFF ENROLLMENT IN COURSES

Effective: August 15, 2024

Purpose: To outline the requirements and limitations for enrollment in University courses.

Scope: This policy applies to all University Support Staff.

Responsible Office: Human Resources

Policy Statement: USS employees enrolling in courses held during their normal work hours is limited to six (6) clock hours per week and approval of the supervisor and department head is required. Employees will not be excused from the forty (40) hour work week required. A written revised daily work schedule must be approved by the supervisor and administrator in charge of that unit in advance. HR reserves the right to request copies of revised work schedules. For those employees covered under the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees’ Memorandum of Agreement, enrollment in courses will follow the provisions of that agreement.

Definitions: All words and phrases shall be interpreted utilizing their plain meanings unless otherwise defined in another University or Board of Regents policy or by statute or regulation.

Procedures: All procedures linked and related to the policies above shall have the full force and effect of policy if said procedures have first been properly approved by the University’s administrator in charge of Human Resources.
