TRAINING AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT

Effective: August 15, 2024

Purpose: To ensure that all University employees receive the necessary training to perform their duties effectively, adhere to compliance requirements, and uphold University’s standards and values.

Scope: This policy applies to all employees of Emporia State University including faculty, staff, administrative personnel, and student employees.

Responsible Office: Human Resources; Office of General Counsel

Policy Statement: Emporia State University is dedicated to providing its employees with the training necessary to perform their roles effectively and in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and University policies. Completion of mandatory training is a condition of employment and continued employment.

Employee Responsibilities

Employees are required to complete all mandatory training sessions assigned by the University within the specified time frames prescribed by the University. Employees must also participate in all training programs and are expected to apply the knowledge gained by such training to their job responsibilities. As applicable, employees must maintain any required certifications and licenses through ongoing training and professional development.

Supervisors and Management Responsibilities

Supervisors and managers are responsible for ensuring that employees complete all mandatory training and must monitor and support the professional development of their employees. Additionally, supervisors and managers must address any training deficiencies promptly and ensure compliance with training requirements.

Non-Compliance

Failure to complete mandatory training may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Definitions: All words and phrases shall be interpreted utilizing their plain meanings unless otherwise defined in another University or Board of Regents policy or by statute or regulation.

Employees – Any person employed by Emporia State University including faculty, staff, administrative personnel, and student employees.

Training – Formal or informal educational activities designed to enhance employees’ knowledge, skills, and competencies related to their job responsibilities and compliance requirements or to create or maintain an employee’s licensure or certification necessary to fulfill job responsibilities and legal requirements.

Procedures: All procedures linked and related to the policies above shall have the full force and effect of policy if said procedures have first been properly approved by the University’s administrator in charge of Human Resources procedures.
