Effective: August 15, 2024

Purpose: The policy establishes guidelines for outside employment for regular full-time employees at Emporia State University, emphasizing that such employment should not conflict with their university schedule or job responsibilities, ensuring their primary commitment remains to their university position.

Scope: This policy applies to all University employees campus wide.

Responsible Office: Human Resources

Policy Statement: A person’s job at Emporia State University is expected to be their primary source of employment, if they are a regular full-time employee. Outside employment is allowed, if the employee adheres to the following guidelines:

  • The hours of a person’s outside employment will not coincide or conflict with their university hours of scheduled work; AND
  • A person’s outside employment will not conflict with their university job responsibilities or affect their ability to perform satisfactorily in their university position.

Definitions: All words and phrases shall be interpreted utilizing their plain meanings unless otherwise defined in University or Board of Regents policy or by statute or regulation.

Procedures: All procedures linked and related to the policies above shall have the full force and effect of policy if said procedures have first been properly approved by the University’s administrator in charge of Human Resources.
