NEPOTISM

Effective: August 15, 2024

Purpose: To outline the University’s regulations on employees with certain degrees of relation to another employee.

Scope: This policy affects all University employees campus wide.

Responsible Office: Human Resources

Policy Statement: No state officer or employees shall advocate or cause the employment, appointment, promotion, transfer, or advancement to any office or position of the state, of a member of such officer's or employee's household or family member.

No state officer or employee shall participate in action relating to the employment or discipline of a member of the officer's or employee's household or family member.

Definitions: All words and phrases shall be interpreted utilizing their plain meanings unless otherwise defined in another University or Board of Regents policy or by statute or regulation.

Family Member – Means a spouse, parent, child, or sibling; sibling as denoted by the prefix half; parent, child, or sibling as denoted by the prefix step; foster child; uncle, aunt, nephew, or niece; any parent or child of a preceding or subsequent generation as denoted by the prefix of grand or great; or parent, child, or sibling related by marriage as denoted by the suffix of in-law.

Household Member - Household member means a person having legal residence in, or living in, the state officer's or employee's place of residence.

Procedures: All procedures linked and related to the policies above shall have the full force and effect of policy if said procedures have first been properly approved by the University’s administrator in charge of Human Resources Procedures.
