MILITARY LEAVE

Effective: August 15, 2024

Purpose: To provide leave for those individuals who are required to serve in the United States Military or National Guard.

Scope: This policy applies to permanent or probationary employees campus wide.

Responsible Office: Human Resources

Policy Statement: An employee may be granted leave without pay to cover the length of required service in the military of the United States.

If a permanent or probationary employee is a member of a reserve component of the military service or the National Guard, the employee may be granted leave of absence with pay for the duration of any official call to duty and for the period or periods of annual active duty for training.

The total amount of leave with pay for annual active duty for training shall be limited to a maximum of thirty (30) working days in any calendar year. This does not include regular weekend guard duty. A copy of the military orders must be presented to Human Resources (HR). Employees in the Reserves or National Guard who are activated should contact HR immediately.

Definitions: All words and phrases shall be interpreted utilizing their plain meanings unless otherwise defined in another University or Board of Regents policy or by statute or regulation.

Procedures: All procedures linked and related to the policies above shall have the full force and effect of policy if said procedures have first been properly approved by the University’s administrator in charge of Human Resources Procedures.
