JURY DUTY

Effective: August 15, 2024

Purpose: To outline the policy for those individuals who receive jury duty.

Scope: This policy applies to all permanent or probationary employees.

Responsible Office: Human Resources

Policy Statement: Permanent or probationary employees shall be granted leave with pay for required jury duty or for certain required appearances as a witness before a court, board, commission, or legislative committee if the appointing authority considers the granting of leave with pay to be in the best interest of the State. A court document must be provided to Human Resources (HR) for verification. Employees will not be entitled to such leave if they are appearing on their own behalf or in an action in which they are a party. Fees paid by the court for jury service may be retained by the employee.

Definitions: All words and phrases shall be interpreted utilizing their plain meanings unless otherwise defined in another University or Board of Regents policy or by statute or regulation.

Procedures: All procedures linked and related to the policies above shall have the full force and effect of policy if said procedures have first been properly approved by the University’s administrator in charge of Human Resources Procedures.
