1.14 MANDATORY TRAINING GUIDELINES
Effective: August 15, 2024
Purpose: To provide guidance on the format and delivery of mandatory trainings.
Scope: This policy applies University wide.
Responsible Office: President’s Office
Policy Statement: All, or a portion of, University personnel are periodically required to participate in training on a subject matter when the University has mandates from Federal or State laws or policies from the Board of Regents. In addition, the University may determine it is appropriate for all, or a portion, of the personnel to participate in training. When such training is mandated, the unit responsible for implementing the training should use the following when selecting methods for delivery, timing, and other relevant issues:
- Both online and face-to-face alternatives should be available as options for individuals to choose to complete.
- A test-out option for individuals should be provided at the onset of the training if possible.
- Videos and other training presentations should be preceded by an opportunity for an individual to demonstrate prior knowledge of the material for exemption from a presentation in the training.
- Online or face-to-face training should take no more than one hour maximum to complete. Training that may require more than one hour should be offered in multiple sections of no more than one hour each and not exceed two hours total. Longer sessions may be offered and taken at the option of the participant.
- The training must provide appropriate feedback on assessments to participants.
- Embedded research studies are prohibited.
- Face-to-face training should be offered at different days/times of the week so there are viable options for each participant to choose to attend.
- All training materials should be accessible by individuals with disabilities as required by applicable laws, regulations, and orders.
Definitions: All words and phrases shall be interpreted utilizing their plain meanings unless otherwise defined in University or Board of Regents policy or by statute or regulation.
Procedures: All procedures linked and related to the policies above shall have the full force and effect of policy if said procedures have first been properly approved by the University’s administrator in charge of General University Procedures.
