4.13 UNCLASSIFIED PERSONNEL WITH ADMINISTRATIVE AND ACADEMIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Effective: August 15, 2024
Purpose: To provide guidelines for unclassified personnel balancing academic and administrative responsibilities, ensuring tenure continuity, and delineating evaluation procedures for academic rank, promotion, and tenure decisions.
Scope: This policy applies to unclassified personnel with administrative and academic responsibilities.
Responsible Office: Academic Affairs
Policy Statement: Unclassified employees with academic appointments may have a percent of time assigned to administrative responsibilities. Unclassified employees with administrative appointments may have a percent of time assigned to academic responsibilities. Policies and procedures for academic appointments guide the academic aspects of the appointment. Policies and procedures for administrative appointments guide the administrative aspects of the appointment.
A faculty member who has tenure and who accepts an administrative appointment will continue to retain tenure in the academic unit in which tenure was obtained. Administrative appointment policies and procedures shall apply to the tenured faculty member’s administrative appointment.
Employees with academic appointments and administrative responsibilities are evaluated for academic rank, promotion, and tenure.
Decisions for academic probationary retention, promotion, and tenure for individuals with academic rank whose primary responsibilities are administrative will be subject to regular academic evaluation procedures in the appropriate unit.
Definitions: All words and phrases shall be interpreted utilizing their plain meanings unless otherwise defined in University or Board of Regents policy or by statute or regulation.
Procedures: All procedures linked and related to the policies above shall have the full force and effect of policy if said procedures have first been properly approved by the University’s administrator in charge of Academic Affairs.
