SECOND MASTER’S DEGREE

Effective: August 15, 2024

Purpose: To identify the requirements and steps necessary to apply for a second master’s degree upon program completion.

Scope: This policy applies to all University degree-seeking graduate students campus wide.

Responsible Office: Academic Affairs

Policy Statement: An academic unit or school may approve a degree plan which includes a maximum of ten (10) semester hours of credit from the first master’s degree if a student is earning a second master’s degree. Any exception to this ten (10) hour limit must be requested by the supervising administrator of the major academic unit and approved by the Dean of the Graduate School. The second degree program must fulfill all of the requirements for that particular master's degree.

Definitions: All words and phrases shall be interpreted utilizing their plain meanings unless otherwise defined in another University or Board of Regents policy or by statute or regulation.

Procedures: All procedures linked and related to the policies above shall have the full force and effect of policy if said procedures have first been properly approved by the University’s administrator in charge of Academic Affairs.
