4.34 GRADES FOR REPEATED COURSES

Effective: August 15, 2024

Purpose: To determine the effect of repeated courses on a student’s grade point average and transcript.

Scope: This policy applies to all courses which have been repeated regardless of where the course was originally taken or repeated.

Responsible Office: Academic Affairs; Registrar’s Office

Policy Statement: The cumulative grade point average (GPA) calculation procedures for repeated coursework is as follows:

All grades will remain on the student’s transcript, but only the last grade will be used in determining grade point averages, and only the course hours in one course may apply toward the degree.

Definitions: All words and phrases shall be interpreted utilizing their plain meanings unless otherwise defined in another University or Board of Regents policy or by statute or regulation.

Repeated Coursework - Coursework with the same course number, title and credit hours, or coursework which the supervisory administrator of the academic unit that offers that course determines is the equivalent course.

Procedures: All procedures linked and related to the policies above shall have the full force and effect of policy if said procedures have first been properly approved by the University’s administrator in charge of Academic Affairs.
