4.40 GOOD ACADEMIC STANDING - UNDERGRADUATE

Effective: August 15, 2024

Purpose: Specifies the minimum academic performance required of all undergraduate students as measured by Grade Point Average (GPA) and dictates the ramifications for failing to meet that minimum.

Scope: This policy applies to all University undergraduate students campus wide.

Responsible Office: Academic Affairs; Registrar’s Office; Financial Aid Office

Policy Statement: Students are expected to maintain a level of academic achievement that allows them to meet the grade requirements for graduation. Undergraduate students remain in good standing when the following cumulative grade point average or higher is achieved:

The image is a table with three columns: "Class," "Number of Hours," and "CGPA." The table outlines the CGPA requirements based on a student's academic class, which is determined by the number of semester hours completed. The details are as follows: Freshmen: Under 30 semester hours, CGPA requirement is 1.8. Sophomores: 30-59 semester hours, CGPA requirement is 2.0. Juniors: 60-89 semester hours, CGPA requirement is 2.0. Seniors: 90 or more semester hours, CGPA requirement is 2.0.

Undergraduate students who fail to maintain the minimum required grade point average of 2.0 in all work attempted at the University will be placed on academic probation or academic dismissal as appropriate.

The criteria for awarding financial aid, which are partly determined by federal regulations, may be more stringent than the criteria to be in good scholastic standing.

To graduate, students must have an overall grade point average of at least 2.00 (transfer work included) and a grade point average of at least 2.00 overall for all work taken at the University.

Academic Probation

When the cumulative GPA falls below the levels described above the student will be placed on academic probation after attempting a minimum of 12 semester hours.

Academic Withdrawal

Undergraduate students on academic probation who’s overall CGPA remains below 2.0, and whose term grade point average falls below 2.0, will be required to withdraw from the University.

Reinstatement

Students may petition for immediate reinstatement.
