Effective: August 15, 2024

Purpose: To specify the minimum academic performance required of all graduate students as measured by Grade Point Average (GPA) and the consequence for failing to meet that minimum.

Scope: This policy applies to all University graduate students campus wide.

Responsible Office: Academic Affairs; Registrar’s Office; Financial Aid Office

Policy Statement: Students enrolled in a graduate degree program or graduate assistantship position must maintain a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) each semester and meet their academic unit’s academic progress criteria toward degree completion.

When a student’s semester GPA falls below 3.0, the student will be placed on academic probation and may be dismissed from their graduate assistantship position at the discretion of the academic unit.

Two consecutive semesters of a GPA below 3.0 will result in termination of the graduate assistantship. The academic unit may reappoint the student to a graduate assistantship when the student’s cumulative GPT is 3.0 or better and the most recent semester GPA is 3.0 or better.
