FULL-TIME STATUS

Effective: August 15, 2024

Purpose: Defines full-time and part-time enrollment for students.

Scope: This policy applies to all University students campus wide.

Responsible Office: Academic Affairs; Registrar’s Office

Policy Statement: Certification by the Registrar’s Office of any student as full-time requires that the student be engaged in full-time academic study.

To be considered a full load for tuition and fees:

  • A minimum load of ten (10) hours is required for undergraduate students

To be considered a full load for financial aid:

  • A minimum load of twelve (12) hours for undergraduate students
  • Nine (9) hours for graduate students

The minimum course load for graduate assistants is six (6) hours during regular terms and four (4) hours for a five (5) week summer term. Courses which count toward the six (6) credit hour enrollment requirement for graduate assistants must consist of graduate level courses.

Once the six (6) credit hour requirement has been fulfilled, the student may take additional courses (either graduate or undergraduate).

A waiver of the minimum enrollment requirement may be granted by the graduate school with the approval of the academic unit and graduate dean.

Definitions: All words and phrases shall be interpreted utilizing their plain meanings unless otherwise defined in another University or Board of Regents policy or by statute or regulation.

Procedures: All procedures linked and related to the policies above shall have the full force and effect of policy if said procedures have first been properly approved by the University’s administrator in charge of Academic Affairs.
