FACULTY ABSENCES

Effective: August 15, 2024

Purpose: To outline the responsibilities of faculty regarding attendance and absences.

Scope: This policy applies to all University faculty campus wide.

Responsible Office: Academic Affairs

Policy Statement: It is the responsibility of a faculty member to follow the academic calendar and the class schedule for both face-to-face and online classes. If the faculty member cannot meet those obligations, the head of the academic unit must be notified prior to the class meeting or obligation. Prior arrangements should be made for another person to be in charge of the class or an appropriate assignment should be developed. In emergency situations, in which prior notification is not possible, a notification of absence should be made as soon as possible.

Definitions: All words and phrases shall be interpreted utilizing their plain meanings unless otherwise defined in another University or Board of Regents policy or by statute or regulation.

Procedures: All procedures linked and related to the policies above shall have the full force and effect of policy if said procedures have first been properly approved by the University’s administrator in charge of Academic Affairs.
