4.24 CURRICULUM REVIEW
Effective: August 15, 2024
Purpose: To provide a policy and procedural framework for instituting curricular changes.
Scope: This policy applies University-wide.
Responsible Office: Academic Affairs
Policy Statement:
CURRICULUM REVIEW PANEL
The Academic Affairs Committee of the Faculty Senate shall appoint members to the Curriculum Review Panel (CRP) at its penultimate meeting of each academic year.
All members of the CRP represent the entire University and not just their respective schools/colleges.
The function of the CRP shall be to provide a University-wide review of objections raised to curricular changes. The CRP, when acting as mediator in disputes over curricular changes, shall be cognizant of the function(s) of the proposing unit(s) and school(s)/college(s), shall determine if there is unnecessary duplication of courses already in existence, and shall be cognizant of the academic standards of the University.
The CRP, after serving as mediator in disputes over curricular changes, shall forward a recommendation for approval or disapproval of the proposed curricular change to the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Definitions: All words and phrases shall be interpreted utilizing their plain meanings unless otherwise defined in University or Board of Regents policy or by statute or regulation.
Major Curricular or Organizational Change – Any proposal is for a new degree, a new major, a new program, or a new sub-specialty under an existing degree.
Minor Modifications – Any change in which the course description and course content (including the syllabus) remain essentially the same as when originally approved. These changes do not significantly alter the intent and purpose of the course and do not have implications for another academic unit.
Procedures: All procedures linked and related to the policies above shall have the full force and effect of policy if said procedures have first been properly approved by the University’s administrator in charge of Academic Affairs.
