4.52 CREDIT OFFERINGS IN COOPERATION WITH ORGANIZATIONS OUTSIDE THE UNIVERSITY

Effective: August 15, 2024

Purpose: To ensure the integrity and quality of academic credit offered for courses conducted by external organizations on or off the University campus

Scope: This policy applies to all University students campus wide.

Responsible Office: Academic Affairs; Registrar’s Office

Policy Statement: Academic units have the authority to endorse formal credit opportunities, such as workshops or seminars, conducted by professional organizations either on the University’s campus or through non-University sponsors. However, for a course to qualify for credit, it must align clearly with the academic unit's approved offerings and be administered directly by the University. The University cannot grant credit for experiences organized by external entities. The course must have an appointed director from the University staff, or a specifically hired individual not affiliated with the organization, ensuring the University's control over program content, staffing, participant evaluation, and grading. Time allocated for business meetings or other activities by the external group does not contribute to the credit-awarding process.

Definitions: All words and phrases shall be interpreted utilizing their plain meanings unless otherwise defined in another University or Board of Regents policy or by statute or regulation.

Procedures: All procedures linked and related to the policies above shall have the full force and effect of policy if said procedures have first been properly approved by the University’s administrator in charge of Academic Affairs.
