Field Placement
Field Placement
As part of your classes at Emporia State University, you may be in a class requiring you to visit a K-12 school. If a field placement is required for your class, your instructor will arrange for you to work with the Office of Field Placement and Licensure to secure a placement.
If you have questions about securing a placement, you may contact Kasey Boyce at kboyce2@emporia.edu, the Field Placement Coordinator. They place students in practicums and clinical placements for the Master of Science in Elementary Education, School of Library and Information Management (SLIM), and School Counseling programs, as well as securing internship placements for Secondary Education students. These include field placements for the ED/EL 220 Introduction to Teaching and ED 431 Phase II courses.
To be admitted to the Teacher Education program, you must provide documentation to show that you have 100 hours of supervised work experience with children or youth. At least 30 of those 100 hours must be in working with students in a PreK-12 classroom setting. Please use the 100 Hours of Supervised Work Experience to document all of your experiences working with children. As part of the ED/EL 220 Introduction to Teaching course, students will complete at least 30 hours of working with students in a PreK-12 classroom setting or apply for a waiver based on documented prior experiences. Guidelines for the 30 hours of ED/EL 220 field placement can be found in the Introduction to Teaching Field Experience Manual. Information about waivers can be found in the Introduction to Teaching Waiver Manual.
