Dr. Mari (Wheeler Flake) Caballero earned a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in mathematics education from the University of Kansas. Her areas of concentration were elementary mathematics and special education. She received her bachelor's in elementary education from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana. She then received her master's in special education, adaptive curriculum, from the University of Kansas.
Prior to her doctoral work, Dr. Caballero taught 4th grade and special education in Raytown, Missouri. She also taught teacher education courses at the University of Kansas and worked as a supervisor of elementary student teachers. Her research interests include the development of pre-service elementary teachers specifically in their ability to teach mathematics and interpret students’ understanding of mathematics.
