Student Health Services Meningitis Policy
All students living on campus must be vaccinated to protect from bacterial meningitis
STUDENT HEALTH SERVICE MENINGITIS VACCINATION POLICY
Emporia State University requires that all students living in campus housing be vaccinated to protect from bacterial meningitis. There is a waiver option for those with medical, religious or other exemptions.
To meet the vaccination requirement you must have one dose of a quadrivalent meningococcal vaccine covering A+C+Y+W (brand names Menactra, Menveo, or MenQuadfi) given on or after the 16th birthday. Please bring documentation from your doctor or clinic to your Hornet Connection, or send it to the Student Wellness Center by June 1st. You will not be assigned a room until you have fulfilled this requirement.
There is a process for medical or religious exemption:
- Meet (in person or virtually) with the Health Services Director (or designee) to review the signs and symptoms of bacterial meningitis, how it is spread and how to protect yourself from infection, and what signs would indicate a need for emergent care.
- Read and sign the waiver form on the Student Wellness Portal. You can access this from Hornet 365 and login using your usual ESU credentials. Signing the form without the meeting does not exempt you and will not result in a room assignment.
Should you have any questions, please contact the Student Wellness Center at 620-341-5222.
