Biology
Forensic Science Concentration, Master of Science
The MSFS-Biology concentration prepares you for careers in forensic biology, DNA analysis, CODIS and forensic toxicology. An undergraduate background in biology or biochemistry is necessary for this program. Curriculum for this program meets the requirements outlined for DAN analysts by the DNA Advisory Board Quality Assurance Standards for Forensic DNA Testing Laboratories.
Biology-Master of Arts
Master of Arts
The Master of Arts (MA) in Biology option is a scientific degree that is designed to provide additional biological training through coursework. This option is appropriate for students pursuing a career in biology or for continued graduate study. Degree options include qualification for more advanced positions in applied biology, preparation for further graduate training and teaching at the high school or college levels (pending certification).
Biology-Master of Science Non-Thesis Option
Master of Science
The Master of Science Non-thesis option is designed to provide additional biological training through coursework in addition to a thorough literature review of research on a contemporary biological topic. This option is appropriate for students pursuing a career in research-driven biological fields or for continued graduate study at the doctoral level. Students may tailor their courses toward particular professional concentrations (e.g., botany, ecology, microbial and cellular biology, zoology, etc.).
Biology-Master of Science Thesis Option
Master of Science
The master’s program in the Department of Biological Sciences is designed to qualify persons for continued graduate work at the doctoral level; for teaching biology in high schools, community colleges and liberal arts colleges; and for employment in various fields of biology, including certain fields of applied biology. This program is available on campus and offers concentrations in Botany, Ecology and Biodiversity, General Biology, Microbial and Cellular Biology, and Zoology.
Chemistry
Forensic Science Concentration, Master of Science
The MSFS-Chemistry concentration prepares you for careers in forensic toxicology, drug identification, fire debris analysis or trace evidence. An undergraduate background in chemistry or biochemistry is necessary for this program.
Criminalistics
Forensic Science Concentration, Master of Science
The MSFS-Criminalistics concentration prepares you for careers in crime scene investigation, trace evidence, firearms or latent fingerprints. An undergraduate background in natural science, forensic science or social science (criminal justice, criminology) background is necessary for this program.
Geospatial Analysis
Certificate Program
The Geospatial Analysis certificate program is a collection of courses designed to provide training and competency in geographic information systems, remote sensing, global positioning system (GPS), and related technologies. The GSA graduate certificate may exist either within or independent of traditional graduate majors.
Mathematics
Certificate Program
This 18-credit hour certificate program was designed to qualify high school teachers to meet the Higher Learning Commission's requirements to teach dual-credit courses. This program is available entirely online.
