School of Library and Information Management (SLIM) Department
MLS Program Outcomes
Graduates of the School of Library and Information Management understand library and information science theory and best practices for librarianship as indicated in the American Library Association Core Competences of Librarianship (2022), the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions Foundational Knowledge Areas (2022), and the Guidelines for Behavioral Performance of Reference and Information Service Providers (2023) and have been introduced to the American Library Association Core Values of Librarianship (2024).
SLIM graduates are critical thinkers who apply information ethics in the development and management of collections, administration and management of library and information organizations, and outreach to the library’s community. They are prepared to read and use library and information studies literature and literature from related fields to make evidence-based decisions. SLIM graduates anticipate and respond positively to social and technological change.
Upon completion of the Master of Library Science degree, graduates will be prepared to:
PO a) - Promote social justice to meet the diversity needs of individuals in their library’s community.
PO b) - Develop and manage library services and resources grounded in the theory and practice of librarianship.
PO c) - Apply evidence-based teaching and learning strategies to support multiliteracies and lifelong learning.
PO d) - Manage libraries and information organizations and their resources for the benefit of individuals and their communities.
