Excitement is building for the 2022 season of Friday Nights, a six-week series of free events created for Emporia State University students that showcase Emporia as an exciting home during their college careers.
Emporia State University students who competed in the Phi Beta Lambda national competition returned with four first-place awards within a total of 15 Top 10 finishes. A total of 10 Emporia State students attended the event June 24 through 27 in Chicago, Illinois.
Peyton Hair of Garden Plain, Kansas, will receive a Pre-Medical Fellowship from Emporia State University. The award comes during a signing ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, at the Garden Plain Community Library.

Two federal grants totaling nearly $3 million for Emporia State University programs were celebrated today during a visit by U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran. The first grant allows the university to create a program in cybersecurity. It came from U.S. Commerce Department funds designated for sciences.
Registration is open for a one-week string camp to children and teens of all playing abilities in early August. The event, conducted by Emporia State University music department, offers chamber music, orchestra, music theory and group instrument classes. Held Aug. 1 through 5, the camp is designed for students who play violin, viola, cello, and bass. Students will be a part of the orchestra and a small ensemble, a creative lab group and a music theory class.

Emporia State Athletics mourns the passing of redshirt sophomore football player Brexten Green who passed away on July 2 in a cliff diving accident at Grand Lake in Oklahoma.
David Spafford, an experienced professional with a proven track record for fundraising, has been named the new Director of Athletics for Emporia State University. Spafford, a Kansas native, brings a successful 27-year career in athletics to Hornet Nation. Spafford will officially begin his duties on July 17, 2022.
