More Kansas Teachers Achieve National Board Certification in Spite of Pandemic

Doing the work required to become board certified in any profession is difficult. When the board certification demands you demonstrate your skill – like teaching in a elementary, middle, or high school classroom – and schooling goes mostly online makes it extremely difficult. However, three more determined Kansas educators persevered and earned their first-time certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and one other teacher successfully worked to renew her certification.


ESU Launches Ethnic, Gender, Identity Studies Major

A new major in Emporia State’s Interdisciplinary Studies Program provides a working knowledge that will be valuable to hiring companies and to creating change within communities. The ethnic, gender and identity major is ideal for people who are interested in a variety of careers and who want to make a difference in their world, especially in areas of social justice, diversity and inclusion, equality and human rights.

University Press of Kansas to continue its work under the leadership of the dean of the University of Kansas Libraries

The University Press of Kansas Board of Trustees, which comprises the provosts from each of the six Kansas Regents institutions, has confirmed KU Dean of Libraries Kevin L. Smith to serve as director of the University Press of Kansas (UPK). Smith, a well-known authority in the field of scholarly communications, will continue his role as dean in addition to serving as director of the Press. This change will allow UPK to take advantage of publishing and scholarly alignment opportunities as well as operate in a more cost-efficient manner.


New Entrepreneurship Major in Business Complements Other Majors

A new program in Emporia State’s School of Business will help students in all majors with entrepreneurial goals. The Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Entrepreneurship prepares students with the mindset, skills and resources to launch a business in their area of interest.
