Emporia State Breaks Ground on Historic Tennis Complex

Amid the numerous festivities on the ESU campus during last weekend’s Homecoming celebration, a defining moment for Emporia State Athletics took place. On Saturday, October 19, ESU held the ceremonial groundbreaking for the Kossover Family Tennis Complex.

Congratulations to alum Dathan Fischer (BSE Elementary Education 2003; MS Educational Administration 2010), who was named Assistant Principal of the Year by the Kansas Association of Secondary School Principals. Dathan is in his first year as head principal at Emporia High School where he served as assistant principal then associate principal.


Students, Faculty, Staff Unite to Fight Food Insecurity

A signing ceremony last week on the Emporia State University campus brought together students, faculty and staff committed to fighting food insecurity both on campus and off. Emporia at the Table: Ending Hunger in our Community, called the EAT Initiative, is collaborating with programs that already exist and working across campus to share the message in classrooms and to the public.



Final Presentations Planned for the Fall 2019 Community Impact Challenge

Three teams face off in the finals of the second annual Community Impact Challenge (CIC), a grant competition to encourage students of Emporia State University to make an impact on pressing issues facing the Emporia community. The finals will be at 5 p.m. Oct. 23, in the Blue Key Room in ESU’s Memorial Union.


Paraguayan Official Visits Campus

The head of a Paraguayan study abroad organization visited Emporia State University on Oct. 21. Federico Mora is general coordinator of the National Scholarship Program for Study Abroad or BECAL. The program sends undergraduate and graduate students as well as professionals to top universities and research centers around the world with the promise they will return and use their new knowledge to benefit Paraguay.

The Teachers College at Emporia State University received national recognition Sept. 26 from the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation for surpassing the standards in becoming re-accredited during their most recent accreditation cycle. Receiving the Frank Murray Leadership Recognition for Continuous Improvement, Emporia State was one of only 13 institutions to receive the award out of the 238 nationally which have CAEP accreditation. Other schools recognized included Duke and Boston College. Learn more…


Homecoming Festivities Unite ESU Alumni, Emporia Community

While ESU alumni return to the Hornets’ Nest for Homecoming, the campus welcomes the Emporia community to enjoy the special events. Homecoming 2019 begins Wednesday, Oct. 16, with the first event organized by students and concludes with a matinee of the musical on Sunday, Oct. 20.


ESU Theatre Presents ‘Little Women, The Musical’ for Homecoming Show

Emporia State University Theatre presents “Little Women, The Musical” from October 17 to 20, 2019, in the Karl C. Bruder Theatre. Set during the American Civil War, the March sisters — romantic Meg, tomboyish Jo, sweet Beth and irascible Amy — live in Concord, Massachusetts, with their beloved Marmee while Father serves as a Chaplain in the war.
