A faculty member and former interim dean at the University of Wisconsin — Milwaukee will be Emporia State’s next dean of the School of Library and Information Management.
Dr. Wooseob Jeong will begin his new role as professor and dean of SLIM on July 5, according to Dr. David Cordle, Emporia State provost and vice president for academic affairs.
Jeong has served at the University of Wisconsin — Milwaukee since 2001, moving from assistant professor to associate professor in the School of Information Studies as well as serving as program director for the bachelor of science in information resources and the master of library and information science. Jeong also served as interim dean of UWM’s School of Information Studies from 2012 to 2014.
“This position is a good fit with my experiences in administration,” said Jeong, noting that Emporia State’s SLIM program has strong enrollment and a solid curriculum with hybrid courses that combine online and face-to-face classes.
Jeong earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in international relations from Seoul National University in Seoul, Korea, a master’s degree in library and information science from University of North Carolina — Chapel Hill and a Ph.D. in information studies from Florida State University.
Provost Cordle anticipates that Jeong will move the Emporia State program forward.
“The School of Library and Information Management is a key point of distinction for ESU. SLIM offers our largest master’s program and our only doctoral program, with student cohorts in Colorado, Oregon, and Utah as well as here in Kansas,” said Cordle. “We looked for a sterling academic record and proven leadership ability in our next SLIM dean, and in Wooseob Jeong we found exactly that.
“Wooseob’s experience and personal qualities make him the right person to help SLIM build on its success.”
