With a course that loops through Campus Woods and includes multiple muddy obstacles, the annual Nitty Gritty Dirt Dash is a fun run designed to excite and challenge participants. The race kicks off its fifth year at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, at the Trusler Sports Complex.
The run starts and ends outside of the Trusler Sports Complex and features 15 obstacles created for all skill levels. Each section will test a different ability, from jumping to climbing and crawling.
Preregistration for the event ends on Wednesday, April 12. ESU students who register by the deadline can receive a $10 discount by using the promo code #playdirty. The regular cost for the event is $15 and all who preregister receive a free T-shirt.
Late registration will be open at 8 a.m. on the day of the event. The first 100 pre-registered participants who check in the morning of the event will also receive a commemorative rally towel, in addition to their shirts.
The first wave of runners will start at 9 a.m. and runners will continue to be sent onto the course until 9:30 a.m.
Proceeds from the Dirt Dash will benefit local organizations, including Brothers Big Sisters of the Flint Hills, Camp Alexander and Emporia Child Care.
