Wanted: Host Families for Chinese Professors

The Office of International Education (OIE) at Emporia State University is seeking the assistance of our Emporia community as we select the best host families for Chinese visiting professors. Professors will join ESU for an English language and methodology training, as well as for American culture and language immersion. Between Aug. 1 and Aug. 20 the Chinese professors will live with host families.

The OIE is asking for Emporia-based families to open their homes to these visiting scholars. In return, you will be culturally enriched and receive a one-time compensation of $600 per scholar to cover costs of room and board. To qualify as a host family, your home will be screened and you must meet the following criteria:

  • The scholar must live in a private bedroom.
  • Your home must be accessible to campus (either comfortable walking distance or you will be willing to drop off and pick up the scholar from campus).
  • In the household there must be a female presence.
  • You will provide at least one reference that can speak to your family’s character.
  • Families will be screened prior to contract signing.

If you have any questions and wish to apply, please contact Neucasha Greene (ngreene@emporia.edu) or call 620-341-5374.
