Two ESU organizations plan to help students and others register to vote in time for the November presidential election.
Representatives of Emporia State’s Associated Student Government and Interfraternity Council will host a voter registration drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 4, 5 and 6 in the Center for Student Involvement lounge on the first floor of the Memorial Union.
They will help people who have never registered to vote and can also help those who are registered but need to change information, such as their address. They also will have information about requesting an absentee ballot for those who want to vote in their home district.
According to the Kansas Secretary of State’s office, those already registered must re-register if they change their name, address or party affiliation. Anyone registering or re-registering needs to bring a valid Kansas driver’s license or non-driver’s identification card.
Anyone registering to vote in Kansas for the first time also needs to bring proof of citizenship. Acceptable documents include birth certificate verifying U.S. citizenship, U.S. passport, U.S. naturalization documents. Although aimed at college students, anyone who has questions about voter registration or wants assistance is welcome to stop by.
