The Emporia State University Memorial Union is re-envisioning the use of the Skyline Room, which will add to the building’s attractiveness for small- and medium-size special events. Skyline Dining on the second floor will close at the end of the spring semester, which will open the space up for more events.
“We are excited about the new opportunities we have to host events in this beautiful space,” said Jason Bosch, director of the Memorial Union. “Converting the dining room into an event venue will add greater flexibility in terms of when the venue can be used and the options for room configurations that better meet the needs of our guests.”
Repurposing Skyline to create regular and ongoing availability for public and private events adds about 3,600 square feet to the union’s event space, which Bosch said is needed. Skyline is the third largest venue in the union, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows with a beautiful view of Wooster Lake.
May 13 will be the final day of operation for Skyline Dining, but Sodexo, which operates food services for Emporia State, has arranged to accommodate groups and others who regularly hold meetings in the dining room.
“We work with several local service organizations and campus departments that hold luncheon meetings,” said Fred Karcher, Sodexo general manager at Emporia State. “To continue to meet their needs, we are adding a lighter luncheon fare to our menu options and we are ready to work with groups large and small on their events,” said Karcher.

“We are excited to offer this re-envisioned space to both the campus and surrounding communities,” Bosch said.
