Educators are being offered opportunities to increase their skill and knowledge through workshops and conferences provided this fall through The Teachers College at Emporia State University. Some events offered have graduate credit available.
October 5, 2016 – “Active Learning through Makerspaces,” a one-day workshop with graduate credit available. This is an all day workshop focusing on why students have an increased level of motivation, success and assessment when content is presented through active learning theories. It is open to K-12 educators, K-12 librarians, public librarians, and community members. October 14 – “Welcome to Our World: Teaching and Assessing Social Studies in the Secondary Classroom,” a one-day workshop with graduate credit available. As Kansas Social Studies teachers implement the Kansas History, Government and Social Studies (HGSS) Standards adopted in 2013, they face many issues. This workshop will address these questions and help equip teachers to effectively work with the new standards. November 3 – “What’s a School Counselor to Do?” is the topic for the 67th annual school counseling conference. This conference will provide key perspectives relating to every school district, building, and school counselor position. November 11 – “Writing Across the Curriculum,” a one-day workshop with graduate credit available. This workshop provides writing strategies to demonstrate knowledge and understanding. November 14 – “Guiding Every Child to Success,” is the topic for the 19th annual Kansas Regional Reading Recovery® and Early Literacy Conference.
