Potential ice storm delays Spring semester move-in to Monday

Emporia State University will delay residence hall move-in until Monday, Jan. 16, 2017. Emporia is located within a region forecasted to receive a significant ice storm this weekend.

ESU staff are receiving these updates from the National Weather Service (NWS) and are in regular communication with the local NWS office in Topeka, Kansas.  The most recent NWS briefing indicates increasing confidence that an ice storm will impact Emporia and the forecast area.  This ice storm poses the threat for hazardous travel conditions and the potential for power outages.

Here are the things students moving into the residence halls need to know at this time:

  1. ESU is delaying the opening date/time for the residence halls to 12 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 16
  2. Additional updates from Residential Life will be communicated through the following methods: ESU e-mail, Residential Life Facebook, Residential Life Twitter, and other methods as available.  Additional updates will be based upon NWS briefings and will be provided mid-afternoon on Thursday, Jan. 12 and Friday, Jan. 13.
  3. For concerns or questions related to residence hall move-in, please call 620-341-5264 during university business hours (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.). Please note university offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 16, 2017 (Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday).
