Phi Kappa Phi at Emporia State named chapter of merit

Emporia State University’s chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society recently was named a chapter of merit.

Phi Kappa Phi is a national honor society founded in 1897 that recognizes and promotes academic excellence in all fields of higher education and engages the community of scholars in service to others.

PKP’s Chapter Recognition Program rewards those chapters that have exhibited outstanding performance as a result of the efforts of their volunteer chapter officers. This past year, 44 of 316 chapters achieved recognition status. The award came with a $100 honorarium.

At the annual PKP banquet and initiation ceremony last May at Emporia State, 67 students and five faculty were honored as new chapter members. Officers for 2015-16 are President Mirah Dow, Past President Manjula Shinge, Student Vice President Payson Maydew, President-Elect Cara Codney, Secretary Quiang Shi and Treasurer Cynthia Patton.
