We would like to recognize several of our outstanding international students who have made a lasting impact on the campus community. These students continue to seek out opportunities to gain experiences in the American culture but to also give a part of themselves to the Emporia campus and community.
Ikbal Ben Gaied Hassein (Tunisia) – This outstanding May graduate completed her studies with a BS Business Management and BS Information Systems degree. Ikbal will be interning this summer in Washington DC with NGO. The NGO, called “People Demand Change” is a program held by the National Council on US- Arab Relations (NCUSAR). Ikbal was very active and influential during her time at ESU. She was a founding member of ESU Model United Nations club, the Arabic Student Association, Muslim Student Association, and Business Student Ambassadors.
Munashe Mangwendeza (Zimbabwe) – A junior accounting major, Munashe, is an outstanding, well-rounded student. He is the Community Hornets Coordinator in the Center for Student Involvement (CSI) on campus. He is also president of the soccer club, a member of UMOJA and a leader in the GIVE group (Getting Involved in Volunteering in Emporia).
Moaz Alnouri (Syria) – A junior economics major, Moaz, is an outstanding student who makes the most of each year. This semester Moaz received four scholarships including the Student Leader Scholarship by the Center of Student Involvement. He was also a semi-finalist in the Emporia Entrepreneur Challenge, a current officer in Phi Eta Sigma honor society, a photographer for the Sunflower Yearbook, and an active participant in GIVE. Moaz will also be interning this summer in Washington DC with Education for Employment, organized by NCUSAR.
While many student organizations on campus use community service as one component of the club, Getting Involved in Volunteering in Emporia – GIVE is all about giving back to the community.
