Emporia State’s new director of alumni relations is a well-known face in the Emporia business community. Jose L. Feliciano Jr. will attend key Homecoming events this weekend although he doesn’t assume his new role until Nov. 13.
“I’m finally a Hornet,” said Feliciano. “My passion for Emporia State University and Emporia, Kansas, is now deeply rooted. I am humbled and honored to represent this fine institution.”
Feliciano earned a graphic design degree from Arkansas State University and has worked in retail since 1997. He came to Emporia in 2007 as general manager of the Flinthills Mall. During his tenure, Feliciano implemented a multi-million-dollar renovation project, and overall mall occupancy increased.
He quickly jumped into the Emporia business community through his involvement with the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce. He served on the board of directors, and was chairman in 2013. With the chamber, he co-founded the annual Hostess Twinkie Festival and served as lead coordinator for the Kansas Hunting and Fishing Expo, the All Veterans Tribute Show and the Hornet Rally with Emporia State University.
“Jose’s energy, passion, and creativity coupled with his background in management, sales, and community outreach are among the many skills he brings to this position,” said Tyler Curtis, ESU assistant vice president for outreach and engagement. “I look forward to the future of our alumni relations programming under Jose’s leadership.”
