The Emporia State Department of Music and its students will roll out the red carpet for Allison Garrett, who became the university’s 17th president on Jan. 4.
The first-ever President’s Concert on Tuesday, April 5 will feature five of the university’s top performing groups with more than 100 students performing. The groups are the Chamber Choir conducted by Jake Narverud, the Chamber Orchestra conducted by Ramiro Miranda, the Percussion Ensemble conducted by Tracy Freeze and the Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble I, both conducted by Gary Ziek.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Albert Taylor Hall, but the Chamber Choir will set the mood for those attending by performing from 6:50 p.m. until show time in the rotunda of Plumb Hall. The remaining four groups will each perform for 15 to 20 minutes to complete the evening.
“There will be a wide variety of music, ranging in style from symphonic and contemporary to jazz, rock and Latin,” said Ziek, director of bands and professor of trumpet.
