An Emporia State alum and respected leader in the Emporia business community has been named executive director for engagement at the university.

Kala Maxfield, currently regional director for Midwest markets for Clearwave Fiber, begins her new role on campus on June 17. Her first 30 days will be spent talking with people in the community and across the university to determine how, when and where they engage with external groups. This role will consolidate similar activity happening in numerous groups across campus including academic departments, athletics, foundation, alumni association and more.

“After this assessment period, a go-forward vision and strategy for Emporia State University will be presented,” said ESU President Ken Hush. “I am excited to see this work lead the university into the future.”

Maxfield shares the excitement.

“I am thrilled to be returning to my alma mater, Emporia State University, an institution that played an integral role in my growth both personally and professionally,” she said. “I look forward to the opportunity to give back as the executive director of engagement.”

Maxfield earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Emporia State. She has worked in marketing for the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce, CableOne, ValuNet Fiber and Clearwave Fiber.

“This new role represents a profound alignment of passion and purpose, and I am eager to contribute to the continued growth and success of Hornet Nation,” Maxfield said. “Together, we will deepen our ties within the Emporia community and beyond, fostering a legacy of enduring pride and partnerships.”
