Lunch was on Emporia State University for local law enforcement officers and firefighters earlier this month. On May 10, ESU Interim President Ken Hush and the university’s leadership team sent a deli lunch to more than 70 at the Emporia Police Department, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Emporia State Police and Emporia Fire Department.
“Emporia State University does not stop at our property lines,” said Hush. “We welcome those from Emporia and Lyon County to enjoy our campus. And our students, faculty and staff live in the larger community, frequent local businesses and enjoy events.
“These agencies serve our university community in many ways, and we are grateful.”
Provided by Sodexo, which has the food service contract at the university, the lunch included a selection of deli sandwiches, fruit, salads and cookies.
ESU Police Chief Jerry Cook helped with coordination of the event and said it was very appreciated.
“Emporia State University has a longstanding relationship with local first responders,” Cook said. “We work together for the betterment of our communities. This lunch was a nice way to say, 'thank you' to these partners.
“We all send a special thank you to President Hush and the Leadership Team for this meal.”
