Hornets gave from their hearts during the first-ever Emporia State University Day of Giving, raising more than $62,000 in the 24-hour period.
A total of $62,346.89 was given by 228 donors in support of 45 areas, according to data collected by the ESU Foundation. Of the Day of Giving donors, 180 were ESU alumni ,and 58 of the donors are current ESU faculty or staff members.
Various groups provided funding for matching gifts during the Day of Giving. Donors successfully matched $10,000 from the ESU Board of Trustees, $5,000 from the School of Business Advisory Board and $1,863 from alumnus Ron Frierson to match gifts to the Student Foundation Fund.
“Each gift given on the Day of Giving also counts toward ESU’s Together, Forward Campaign,” said Jenni Denton, vice president of stewardship and administration for the ESU Foundation and ESU associate vice president for university advancement. “And the day’s matching opportunities were a fun way to increase awareness and support of some great things happening throughout our university.”
