Emporia State’s spring graduate and undergraduate Class of 2021 will celebrate commencement with outdoor, in-person ceremonies, university officials announced today.
- Graduate students will receive their degrees at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 14.
- Undergraduates will be recognized at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 15.
Both ceremonies will be in Welch Stadium.
“Our decisions remain dependent on the status of the COVID pandemic as we conclude the spring semester,” said Dr. David Cordle, provost and vice president for academic affairs, in an email to campus. “With the numbers of active cases continuing to decrease in Lyon County and the increase in the number of people who are vaccinated, we are hopeful our plans can move forward.”
The planning committee will arrange seating on the football field that provides space between graduates. Officials also will study the capacity of the stands with social distancing protocols to determine any needed limitations on the number of guests.
