A junior varsity debate duo showed well at the National Junior Division Debate Tournament hosted by Johnson County Community College last weekend. Only Novice and Junior-Varsity debaters are eligible to compete for a shot at the championship.
The partnership of Squid Monteith and Isaach Johnson finished the preliminary debates with an impressive record of 4-2, earning victories over students from the University of Kansas, Johnson County Community College and Concordia College.
The team’s record was good enough to qualify for the single-elimination debates, putting them in contention for the division title. Unfortunately, they had to bow out of the bracket due to illness and ultimately finished as quarterfinalists.
