Regents announce professional development opportunity for Kansas educators

Topeka — The Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR) is announcing a new nine-module, self-paced structured literacy professional development opportunity for P-12 educators that includes a stipend.

The nine literacy modules cover phonological/phonemic awareness, phonics, syllable instruction, morphology, syntax, language/vocabulary/semantics, comprehension, assessments/interventions, and writing. Three additional modules are available on English language learners, special education, and dyslexia.

This opportunity is available to educators in all grades and content areas. Through the KBOR grant,

teachers will be paid a $500 stipend to participate in the modules and develop classroom application learning activities suitable for a state-wide repository. Modules open July 10 and teachers must submit their lesson plans, activities, and self-reflection documents by Aug. 15. Interested educators can educators can register here.

The content was developed by reading experts from each Regent Institution including Emporia State University, Fort Hays State University, Kansas State University, Pittsburg State University, University of Kansas, Wichita State University, and Washburn University.
