Recent graduate Eric Lloyd (2016 Psychology) will be inducted into the inaugural Sigma Tau Gamma Undergraduate Hall of Fame. Art exhibitions
- Eric Conrad, associate professor of art, has drawings in the 2016 Kansas City Flatfile and Digitalfile show at the H&R Block Artspace at the Kansas City Art Institute. Brian Miller, associate professor in social sciences, is part of a Civil War panel that will be aired live on C-SPAN3 on Saturday, June 18. Continuing with ESU’s STEM outreach, undergrads Chris Alderman and Adam Tebben visited with Gov. Sam Brownback at the Kansas Capitol. Adam is the incoming 64th president for the National Student Nurses’ Association that meets in New York City. Chris is a student in the Honors College whose paper on cancer research received the Great Plains Honors Council Boe Award.

Libraries & Archives
Cynthia Kane and Terri Summey, both professors in the University Libraries and Archives, presented at the 17th Distance Library Services Conference held April 20 through 22 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Their presentation was entitled, “Going Where They Are: Intentionally Embedding Librarians in Courses and Measuring the Impact on Student Learning.”

Football
Emporia State's record setting quarterback Brent Wilson received the prestigious Ken B. Jones Award as the MIAA Male Student-Athlete of the Year. This is the eighth year an Emporia State student-athlete has earned the award and the second Hornet football player. Track and Field
Emporia State brought home five All-Americans from the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Bradenton, Florida. They included Duke Tibbs in the men’s open 400m and Tibbs with Parker Evans, Wyatt Sander and Taysean Goodwin in the 4x400m relay team.. Seven Hornet track and field athletes have earned All-Region honors according to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The athletes are Parker Evans, Duke Tibbs, Wyatt Sander, Taysean Goodwin, Morgan Brant, Morgan Gilliland and Thomas LaRoche.
Baseball
Emporia State red-shirt freshman Tucker Perkins was named to the NCAA Division II Regional All-Tournament team at second base after hitting .357 in the Hornets’ four games in St. Cloud, Minnesota. As the season wound down, three players began receiving recognition. Evan Koehler and Dalton Wheat were named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-Central Region team. Tyler Stubblefied was named honorable mention. Wheat was named to the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association First-Team All-Region; Koehler and Stubblefield earned second-team honors. And Wheat and Stubblefield were named American Baseball Coaches Association Rawlings First-Team All-Region.
Basketball
For the 19th straight year, the Emporia State Lady Hornet basketball team ranked in the top six in attendance among the over 300 NCAA Division II basketball playing schools. For more: http://bit.ly/1WMyc1e
The Emporia State men's basketball team continued a string of 14 straight years ranking in the top 25 in attendance among the over 300 NCAA Division II basketball playing schools. Academic Honors
- Baseball added 79 newcomers to the list of student-athletes on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll and five newcomers were named MIAA Scholar-Athletes after completing two terms of attendance at Emporia State. In addition, seven Hornets were given MIAA Academic Excellence awards for compiling a 4.0 GPA. And 12 returners from their NCAA regional tournament qualifying team were placed on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.
- Track and field placed 32 returners on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll for track and field/cross country this season with seven of them earning MIAA Scholar-Athlete honors. The seven Scholar-Athletes are the second most in the MIAA this year.
- Tennis placed eight returners on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll for tennis this season with five of them earning MIAA Scholar-Athlete honors.
To achieve honor roll status, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 and have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms. The MIAA Scholar Athlete Award is given to those who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.50, have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms, and earn All-MIAA honors.
The Teachers College

Police & Safety
Nicholas G. Hensley recently completed all of the necessary training requirements to be promoted from the temporary position of University Police Officer Trainee to the permanent position of University Police Officer. Nicholas’s first day of employment was Feb. 10, 2015. He attended Basic Training at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center from March 9 through June 12, 2015. Since that time, Nicholas has been working with certified instructors to complete training tasks to fulfill the requirements the ESUPD Field Training Program.
University Facilities
The university was a sponsor for the 2016 Dirty Kanza gravel grinding bicycle race. Departments across campus provided support to the event and entrants. These include University Facilities, Police and Safety, Memorial Union, Sodexo, Residential Life, Emergency Management and Marketing and Media Relations.
Emporia State was the site for a G290 Basic Public Information Officer class last week that brought about 20 students to campus. This was a collaborate effort among ESU, Lyon County Emergency Management and the Kansas Division of Emergency Management.
An annual Hazardous Waste Training was provided to employees of University Facilities, Memorial Union and Residential Life on May 18. This training educates employees on how to identify, handle and properly dispose of haszardous waste in their areas. This training is required by KDHE and the EPA.
Business
The School of Business had two members of its “family” recognized at the MIAA Annual Award Banquet on June 1 in Kansas City. Brent Wilson, BSB – Management 2016, received the MIAA Ken B. Jones Male Student-Athlete of the Year Award. Dr. Kamal Lamsal, assistant professor of management, received the MIAA SAAC Mentor of the Year Award for 2015-16.

- A book proposal from Michael Smith, professor of social sciences and chair of the department, “Restrictive Voting Laws and the 2016 U.S. Election,” is now under contract from the University of Missouri Press. The final publication date will be in 2018. The book includes co-authors from other universities.
- Congratulations to Benjamin Smith (B.S. Biology 2010, M.S. Biology 2013), David Edds (ESU Biology), and Jason Goeckler (Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks & Tourism) on the publication of their coauthored manuscript, “Distribution and Density of Zebra Mussels in Four Kansas Reservoirs,” in the Southwestern Naturalist.
