ESU Theatre presents riotous farce ‘Suite Surrender’

PO_suitesurrenderEmporia State University’s 64th annual season of Summer Theatre continues July 11-14 at 7:30 p.m. with “Suite Surrender” by Michael McKeever. The show will be under the direction of Bob Hart. Abbi Timmermeyer (Andover) is the Production Stage Manager, and Zulema Renteria (Emporia) is the Assistant Stage Manager.

It is 1942 and two of Hollywood's biggest divas have descended upon the luxurious Palm Beach Royale Hotel — with entourages, luggage and legendary feud in tow. Everything seems to be in order for their wartime performance ... that is, until they are somehow assigned to the same suite. Mistaken identities, overblown egos and a lap dog named Mr. Boodles round out this love note to the classic farces of the ’30s and ’40s.

The cast includes Elizabeth Higbee (Tonganoxie) as Claudia McFadden, Olivia Nunnelly (Goddard) as Athena Sinclair, Justin Scheck (Gardner) as Bernard Dunlap, Elizabeth Tate (Sand Spring, Oklahoma) as Murphy Stevens, Dayne Sabatos (Burlington) as Mr. Pippet, Isabelle Nelson (Olathe) as Dora Del Rio, Miranda Kimble (Mullinville) as Mrs. Everret P. Osgood, Lucas Coble (Olpe) as Francis and Drew Keller (Ellis) as Otis.

Chris Lohkamp is the set designer and technical director.  The scene shop crew includes Ben Hill (North Platte, Nebraska), Harriel Mack (Newton), Tyler Lang (Wichita), Mason Nicks (Leavenworth), and Jared Steele (Garden City). Amanda Dura is the costume designer.  Her crew is led by Allison DeMeyer (BFA, 2018) and includes Emily Rayson (Ottawa), Cameron Webb (Shawnee), Yerim Noh (Pohang, South Korea),and Mollie McClanahan (Topeka). Harriel Mack (Newton) is the House Manager.
