Emporia State University School of Business students Emna Rejaibi, Saandhyarag Sasidhar, and Mohammad Daouk took first place at the first Kansas Collegiate Case Competition powered by Cerner on Sept. 29. Dr. Mohammed Sajedur Rahman, assistant professor of information systems, was the team’s advisor.
A team of Emporia State School of Business students recently won the first-ever Kansas Collegiate Case Competition powered by Cerner.
Each team was given a real-world business challenge designed for students to explore and develop their abilities to create innovative solutions. Cases are focused on developing a resourcing strategy to meet the needs of Cerner’s global client base.
“We want our students to be able to work through problems better than the rest,” said Dr. Mohammed Sajedur Rahman, the ESU team advisor. “We come out of the classroom as good problem solvers, and this achievement confirms that.”
The competition, created for Kansas Regent university participants, moved quickly with just 11 days between receiving the case, winning the campus contest, then competing in finals at Cerner in Kansas City. Participating in the Kansas Collegiate Case Competition is an example of the high-impact learning experiences that all students at Emporia State University receive.
“I believe our students set the bar very high for future competitions,” Rahman said.
The winning ESU team members — Mohammad Daouk of Lebanon, senior computer science major minoring in information systems and math; Emna Rejaibi of Tunisia, freshman computer science exchange student; and Saandhyarag Sasidhar of United Arab Emirates, sophomore information systems and marketing major — competed against teams from Fort Hays State University, Kansas State University, Pittsburg State University and the University of Kansas.
“It was a lot of work, but the experience was worth it. I enjoyed the chance to speak with top-level professionals in a company such as Cerner,” says Daouk.
