Dr. Ed. Bashaw will become dean of the School of Business at Emporia State University by June 5, according to Dr. David Cordle, provost of Emporia State University.
Bashaw currently is dean of the College of Business at Arkansas Tech University and holds the title of professor of marketing. He visited the Emporia State University campus Jan. 26 through 28 for interviews. During his time in Emporia, Bashaw met with students, faculty and staff, campus administration and members of the Emporia community.
“During the recruiting process I had a very good feeling about Emporia State,” explained Bashaw. “It was impressed upon me that this is a place with community and spirit.”
Bashaw received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in education and a master’s degree in business administration from Baylor University. He earned his Ph.D. in marketing from the University of Memphis.
He was previously dean of the College of Business at Texas A&M University-Texarkana. He was a member of the Department of Marketing and Advertising in the College of Business at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock where he held the title of professor of marketing and director of the Executive MBA program.
Before assuming a career in higher education, Bashaw worked in sales and marketing with Fab-Knit Manufacturing and General Mills, Inc. He has received numerous sales awards and was a member of the regional sales management team that was recognized by General Mills as the company’s outstanding sales management team in the U.S.
Working with the Emporia business community and School of Business supporters will be a priority for Bashaw.
“The support of the business community is critically important to the success of our school,” Bashaw said. “I am very excited to meet the various constituencies of Emporia State’s School of Business and work together to better serve our students, the people of Emporia and beyond.”
“The dean of the School of Business is a key leader who plays a critical role in advancing the school’s academic excellence and fostering its engagement with alumni and the business community,” said Provost Cordle. “Ed Bashaw was a clear choice for us. He has the experience, the track record and the personal qualities we need in a business dean.
“We’re celebrating Ed’s decision to join the Hornet Nation and looking forward to his joining us this summer.”
For Bashaw, coming to Emporia State allows him to work with first-generation college students, a group that he is very passionate to serve.
“I draw great satisfaction from knowing that when our students graduate from Emporia State, they are better able to positively impact themselves and their families,” said Bashaw. “For these reasons and more, I can proudly say, ‘I’m a Hornet!’”
